Kingham Life

Great Cafe’s – our suggestions list #1

The Cotswolds is a fabulous place for eating local, seasonal produce and around the Kingham area we have some fantastic café’s worth planning a lunch stop during your days out exploring. I’m tempted to call this “Café’s Part One” as there is so much to tell you about I’m sure I’ll come back to it again with another list!  Here’s a small selection of our current favourites we can’t keep away from:

Daylesford Organic Farm is just around the corner from us, it may blow your mind!  Either take a 20 minute walk along the bridle path straight from your door or a 5 minute drive around the corner. The food and the people watching are both excellent.

The Cotswold Guy – THE best sausage rolls (according to David Beckham!) and a great place for lunch. Serving salads, burgers, sandwiches & specials. Sunday roasts and pizza nights at the Gagingwell location. Also sells fresh ingredients & take-home hampers. Book online: thecotswoldguy.co.uk.  There are two different locations in the Cotswolds:

The Old Coalyard, Gagingwell, nr Chipping Norton, OX7 4EF & Church Lane, Guiting Power, GL54 5TX

The Straw Kitchen at Whichford Pottery, Whichford, CV36 5PG

Combine with a trip to the pottery & shop. A wonderfully rustic barn (built from straw bales) serving fantastic seasonal, home grown brunches & lunches. Rustic and relaxed with a focus on vegetarian food (but meaty sides area always on offer too & their sourdough bacon sandwich is worth the drive for alone). Expect to table share, help yourself to water and go back from more!  No bookings. Some outdoor tables. Open 10-4 Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat only.

Pit KitchenBringing the east London outdoor street food scene to Oxfordshire! All food is cooked over an open fire with seasonal ingredients. On a farm just outside Todenham, GL56 9PQ – look for the signs to Todenham Manor Farm. (Meat is also sold here if you want something for an excellent roast.) Seating under a large barn. Beautiful views.

Open seasonally from early May – late October: Weds, Thurs, Fri: 5-10pm, Saturdays 12-10pm, & Sundays 12-6pm & yes, there are proper loo’s!

Quince & Clover – The Old Post Office, Great Tew, OX7 4DB

Wonderful relaxed café stye restaurant offering seasonal dishes, deli counter with homemade pastries, takeaway soups, salads & stews and a pre-order service for homemade catering and hamper takeaways. No bookings, walk-in only. Open for 8.30– 11.30am for breakfast & 11.30am – 3pm for lunch (closed on Tuesday).

If you’re heading out this way for a walk this place is a gem of a café, worth stopping on route for a wonderful breakfast, lunch or grab a homemade takeaway meal for later. Seating over 2 floors in the old post office building. Fantastic salads, quiches, sandwiches etc.  Open 9am – 4pm daily.
